Medical errors are unfortunately an all too common occurrence in Pennsylvania. Data indicates that as many as 8,000 medical mistakes are reported by hospitals and doctor’s offices in the state each year.

This leaves many citizens questioning what is being done to prevent such incidents from occurring. The Philadelphia Medical Malpractice Lawyers with Lundy Law explain the state has established the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority (PSA) to identify and address some of the most common mistakes that are occurring in medical facilities across the state.

According to an article from The Tribune-Review, the organization was created in 2002 and combs through as many as 240,000 medical records each year to pinpoint the causes of patient injuries that occur while under the care of a physician.

Officials with the organization say some of the most common problems include medication mistakes and infections. When conclusions like these are drawn, the PSA can then create guidelines and assessments that can be used to educate staff members at the facilities where errors occur. The methods have been proven successful in the past, considering officials from one hospital reported the program was “instrumental” in the facility being able to report no wrong-site surgeries in a single year.

The Philadelphia Personal Injury Lawyers with Lundy Law applaud the efforts being made to improve patient safety in Pennsylvania. If you are harmed as the result of a medical mistake though, the firm is here to help. Call us at 1-800-LUNDYLAW to discuss your legal rights.
