A world famous Bulgarian ballerina, who was involved in a hit-and-run accident early Sunday morning, has died. According to reports from NBC 10 Philadelphia, the 22-year-old dancer was taken off life support at a local hospital Tuesday.
The accident happened at the intersection of Broad and Ellsworth Streets around 4:00 a.m. as the young woman was attempting to cross the street after leaving a Chinese restaurant. She was in a marked crosswalk when an intoxicated 19-year-old driver blew through a red light in a green 1999 Audi A4 and struck the woman before hitting three parked cars as well. The driver and a passenger fled the scene on foot just moments after the crash, but were later taken into custody after they returned to the scene to retrieve several items from the car.
The woman was taken to Jefferson Hospital where she remained in critical but stable condition over the next several days. Her family arrived from Bulgaria Tuesday and decided to take her off of life support.
The driver of the vehicle was originally charged with aggravated assault and DUI, but police say his charges will now be upgraded to negligent homicide by vehicle.
The Philadelphia car accident lawyers with Lundy Law would like to send their sympathies to the family and friends of the young woman who died in this accident. The firm also asks that we all prevent similar accidents by not drinking and driving.
