As summer is now in full swing, there is a good chance that you’ll be taking part in some water activities this weekend. Maybe you’ll be swimming in a pool or the ocean. Maybe you’ll be boating on a lake or a river. Whatever it is that you’ll be doing, remember that while playing in the water is fun, it can also be dangerous, especially if you’ve got the kids with you. Here are a few tips from the National Institutes of Health for water safety this weekend:
- Avoid alcohol when swimming or boating
- Wear a life jacket whenever you’re in a boat
- Don’t swim alone, or in bad weather
- Learn CPR
- Learn to swim and teach your children to swim
- Supervise your children when they are in the water
- And, of course, to prevent sunburns, use plenty of sunscreen
Also, be sure not to swim alone and keep rescue gear, a first aid kit and a cell phone nearby. If you do these things in advance, then you’ll be able to simply relax and enjoy yourself in and around the water. So… have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend!
