A tragic accident is one step closer to closure with an arrest being made in the year-old hit-and-run case that killed a young woman.

NBC Philadelphia is reporting that the arrest was made Tuesday night, and that the perpetrator was being charged with vehicular homicide, DUI, manslaughter, and several other related offenses.

Witnesses say that on May 1, 2010, the victim was retrieving a bag from the backseat of her car on the corner of Third Street and Erie Avenue. Out of nowhere, a car came roaring down the road and hit the victim, killing her almost immediately. The driver of the vehicle never stopped. Witnesses gave a description of the vehicle as a ’90s model, white, four-door sedan. The victim’s family regularly held vigils to keep the case in the public’s eye.

The victim’s cousin was quoted last year as saying, “For the family right now, we need some closure. We can’t rest, we’re going to keep on going until this person is caught.” That diligence paid off and the family held a vigil Tuesday night to remember the victim and celebrate the arrest.

No information is available on how police pinpointed the driver involved in the case. There was a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
