The U.S Department of Health and Human Services estimates that more than a million citizens over age 65 are abused or neglected each year. Many of those individuals are ill or disabled as well. Even more disturbing, it is believed that as many as 84 percent of elderly abuse cases go unreported.

In an effort to reduce the number of Philadelphia Nursing Home Abuse cases and other types of elderly neglect in the metro area, one city official is working to raise awareness of the issue through several different channels.

A story from CBS-Philly discusses how the Director of Older Adult Protective Services at the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, Joe Snyder, was a central figure in a recent message posted across the PECO building that stated, “There’s No Excuse For Elder Abuse,” along with an address for a website where more information on the topic could be obtained.

Snyder also promoted World Elder Abuse Day this past Saturday across the city. He said the best way for people to put an end to the problem is to become active in the lives of the elderly. Snyder explained simply checking up on the elderly significantly reduces the chances of abuse or neglect.

The Philadelphia Personal Injury Lawyers with Lundy Law encourage anyone who suspects an elderly person is being abused or neglected report the incident to the proper authorities.
