On its website, WCBS-TV New York (5/8) reports that one week after a New Jersey woman was arrested on child endangerment charges for allegedly taking her little girl into a tanning booth, “health groups in New Jersey are calling on state lawmakers to pass legislation to prohibit all minors from using indoor tanning facilities.” According to the American Cancer Society, “the rate of skin cancer, otherwise known as melanoma, has increased in the Garden State by 43 percent over the last 10 years and says indoor tanning booths are a major factor.” The current law in New Jersey “prohibits anyone under the age of 14 from using tanning booths,” while adolescents ages 14 through 17 must have their parents’ written consent.
