Parents, if you’ve picked up a “Shrek” drinking glass at McDonalds for your child, then make sure you read this article from the Associated Press. On June 4, the AP reported that,  “Cadmium has been discovered in the painted design on ‘Shrek’-themed drinking glasses being sold nationwide at McDonald’s, forcing the burger giant to recall 12 million of the cheap US-made collectibles while dramatically expanding contamination concerns about the toxic metal beyond imported children’s jewelry.” McDonald’s USA spokesman Bill Whitman “said a pigment in paint on the glasses contained cadmium.”

Cadmium is a heavy metal that causes cancer. It bio-accumulates quickly, meaning that the body absorbs and isn’t able to expel it at a rate fast enough to be safe. Toxic over exposure occurs at very low levels.

If you have one of these in your house, get it out, fast.
