A worker at a Falls Township, New Jersey, sugar processing plant died earlier this week after being involved in an on-the-job Slip and Fall Accident. According to NBC 10-Philadelphia, the incident occurred Tuesday at the CSC Sugar Plant on Roebling Road.
Police were called to the plant after the victim was discovered missing from the jobsite for several hours. A search of the property by the victim’s co-workers uncovered the body inside a hopper filled with sugar. Investigators stated a preliminary examination of the scene showed the man may have been walking along a catwalk above the vat when he slipped and fell.
Reports from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration show the plant had been issued citations for six serious safety violations in the past. Another four safety violations were issued to the company in 2010.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics concluded slips, trips, and falls accounted for 14 percent of all fatal occupational accidents that occurred last year. This made slips and falls the fourth most common type of fatal work-related mishap.
