More than 1 in 4 fatal drowning victims are children younger than 14, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Whether swimming at the beach or in a pool, it is important for parents to make sure their children are playing safe in the water.
When swimming, KidsHealth suggest parents should:
- Never allow children to swim unsupervised.
- Keep safety gates around pools when not swimming.
- Pay attention to the depth of the water.
- Use flotation devices appropriately and when necessary.
