The 40-year-old Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, woman accused of both medical malpractice and killing a 22-year-old woman by performing silicone buttock injections without a license was in court for a preliminary hearing yesterday. NewsWorks stated the trial will move forward and the woman will face arraignment later this month.

The claims of Pennsylvania Medical Malpractice stem from the February 2011 encounter two women from England had with the woman now referred to as “The Black Madam”. The women told investigators they met with the woman after inquiring about the service through an Internet ad. They flew into the Philadelphia International Airport and met the so-called nurse practitioner and an associate at Hampton Inn. There, the women received the procedure, but soon after, one of the women became extremely ill. She complained of chest pains and trouble breathing. The women were told by The Black Madam to call an ambulance if her condition worsened. It did, and less than 12 hours later, the woman was dead.

The chief medical examiner, Dr. Fredric Hellman, concluded the victim died of high levels of food-grade silicone that had seeped into the bloodstream and into vital organs like the liver, brain, and lungs.
