Philadelphia Announces First Case of Coronavirus

On Tuesday, March 20, 2020, the city of Philadelphia announced it’s first case of coronavirus. Dr. Thomas Farley, Commissioner of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, made the announcement.

The person is being treated at home and officials have contacted people who may have come into contact with the patient. As of March 9, five people are under investigation of coronavirus in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia health officials have urged people to avoid public gatherings of more than 5,000 people and to not attend the Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The event will not be cancelled, but attendance is not recommended.

8 people were reported positive for coronavirus in Montgomery County, with one patient hospitalized in critical condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. One of the infected is a Doctor for the  Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s King of Prussia location.
